For those of you that have booked—or are thinking of booking—a Manta Ray Night Dive with Kona Honu Divers, you may have noticed a $1 Nature Fee. This fee is for the Malama Kai Foundation, which manages the day mooring program that allows KHD, and other dive companies, to dive in a way that is safe and sustainable for our reefs. In places where there aren’t moorings, companies have two choices: dropping anchor or live boating, neither of which are great options because the former poses safety issues and the latter is damaging to the reef. 
Mooring projects are important because they allow heavily-used sites to remain pristine and healthy, which is great for reefs and for divers! KHD believes in giving back to donating to foundations like Malama Kai and for every Manta Charter you book, we will throw in a buck in matching funds. Pretty cool, huh?
